Benidorm Old Town Tapas Beyond the Strip

Benidorm’s beachfront is built for volume. The old town still rewards people who want small plates, Spanish wine and a bill that feels like Spain.

1. Leave the Levante front line

Walk into the Casco Antiguo side streets above the harbour. If every board is English-only with full English breakfast, keep walking one more block.

2. Eat on Spanish time

• Tapas densest from ~20:30 — earlier seats are quieter but kitchens may still be warming up
• Order a few raciones to share rather than one oversized tourist platter
• Ask for the day’s specials; chalkboards beat laminated photos

3. Budget cue

A round of three to four shared plates plus drinks should not need a resort-hotel wallet. If prices match the skyline hotels behind you, you are still on the strip economy.

Use Benidorm’s old town for tapas: inland streets, Spanish dinner hours, chalkboard specials. The skyline stays for the view — supper works better a few alleys uphill.
