Alicante’s Explanada After the Castle Heat
Updated 2026 · Blanca Guide travel guide
The Explanada is Alicante’s palm promenade by the harbour. It looks good at noon in photos. It feels better when the stone has cooled and the terrace chairs fill.
1. Do the castle earlier
Santa Bárbara is a climb and a heat soak. Finish the fortress by late afternoon. Save the Explanada for the stroll down afterward.
2. Evening is the promenade
- The red-and-cream mosaic is easier under softer light
- Harbour breeze arrives when the inland streets still feel warm
- Tapas streets behind the Explanada open into dinner hours
3. You do not need a car for this bit
If you are already in central Alicante, walk. Parking near the Explanada at dinner time is the hard part. A garage earlier in the day beats circling at 20:00.
Bottom line
Castle first, Explanada after the heat. Walk the mosaic, eat nearby, skip the dinner-hour parking hunt.
